31DC2018 Day 01: Red – Sculpted 3D Skull on Red & Black Lace

Starting out strong with the 31 Day Challenge for 2018 [explore entries on Instagram #31DC2018 ] by running late haha. Well at least for my timezone and planned posting. And we’re only on Day 01’s Red prompt. For this I chose to do a 3D Skull on Red & Black Lace.

…Start Review…

I’m also quickly reviewing this red stamping polish from Born Pretty that was sent to me (I’m assuming) for the June launch of the new bottles. Yet it only appeared in my letterbox a matter of weeks ago, so I think it was part of that. It is a cherry red, on the warmer side of the cool red/warm red line.

It’s called BP-WN05 Dark Armor and is item number: 42857. You can use my 10% off code BUFFQ10 for discounts on your order if  you wish. The item number link will take you to it.

As a stamping polish it is thin enough to move smoothly along the plate, but didn’t dry too fast. It was really pigmented, and when you see the videos tutorials of this in the coming months, you will see what I mean. It picked up flawlessly as you can see from my lacy skull stamping on the ring and index fingers.

I have mattified the pinky with a matte gel top coat, and glossed up the index with a no wipe gloss gel top coat ✌ See the promo shots enlarged:

The polish is 6ml, which is plenty for stamping. I tend to buy this size polish for stamping so it stays fresh, except for my most used colours like white, black, golds etcetera. It is part of the White Night collection – the others which you can see in the first shot above.

…End Review…

And here’s a little close and at a side angle so you can see the relief of the 3D. (The sculptural bit that stands off the nail in layman terms). It’s not too high.

I didn’t want to go too tall due to curing time, since I was using a 3D gel instead of acrylic; and also it would look way too chunky. They aren’t finished – it was taking me too long to get my shit together and so I had to stop before I got to sculpt some roses and paint other details on there (skull features etcetera).

I did mention elsewhere that I am still quite flat out (and flat generally after a rough few months) and though I am doing this, I am doing it around my other obligations, so each of the designs still have to fit in time-wise. Energy, sanity and health-wise too! So be warned 😁😊 Most of the daily posts are gonna be short and sweet, cos this one is rather epic…

.

And that wraps up my 31DC2018 Day 01: Red – 3D Skull on Red & Black Lace mani. Please read my Intro Post to see what goals and aims I have set for nail art in this year’s 31 Day Challenge. Some may be quite lofty, but Imma try.

Awesome, Thank you Tracy! And likewise looking forward to seeing all your manis. Seems like a few people are skipping this year.

I’m definitely looking to have some fun with it since I’ve not been able to do much nail art lately, so as long as it doesn’t drown me 😂

Thank you Monica! I’m trying to make up for lost time and try out a few ideas I had after not having much time for nail art lately, so hopefully I can keep it up 😁
