THE RUNDOWNS:

Name: No-Wipe Gel Top Coat in Gloss
Brand: Born Pretty
Item Number: 40707 – Tempered Top Coat option
Item Type: No-Wipe Gel Top Coat
Colour (or family): Clear
Size: 10ml / 0.33oz

Usage Notes:

Apply over other gel polish for long wear without needing to wipe off the tacky layer. It is easy to apply and went on well, self-levelling enough without being too runny. I had an older bottle of this stuff that was thick and gluggy, and perhaps old when I got it, so I wanted to try it out again, and was happy with the consistency for such a budget item. Considering more professional top coats are often upward of $10-$20 a bottle, this was quite the bargain.

It doesn’t have time for curing on the bottle, but is between 30-60 seconds. Depending on strength of lamp. I would do it for 60 seconds just to ensure it is properly cured. Because uncured or semi-cured product is very dangerous and can cause allergies. You also don’t want to overcure it, so I found 60 seconds was perfect in a 36w LED UV lamp.

The Verdict:
Tempered Top Coat: It is handy because it is long lasting and a glossy finish. It is tough, claimed to have high scratch resistant. I love No Wipe Top Coats in matte and gloss and they are a perfect base for using mirror and chrome powders.

The no-wipe kind are my top choice when using any type of gel top coat. As well as reducing contact with uncured gels on the skin given the fact they eliminate the need to wipe at the end, they are easy to use and fuss free.

I can’t speak to it’s longevity cos I did not wear it for ~20 days to find out, but it retained it’s shine for the time I wore it which is another good sign. You can see how reflective and glossy it was with the light shone on it. It self-levelled quite well and this is another bonus for me. Some of the older budget no-wipe top coats I have tried in the past were thicker and did not do this as well.

Definitely recommended for those who love powders, mirror/chrome powders, and gels.

Name: Colorful Mirror Nail Pigment Powder, 2g/box
Brand: Born Pretty
Item Number:   31142 – Option 8
Item Type: Pigment Powder
Colour (or family): Bronzed Orange
Size: 2g / 0.1oz

Usage Notes:

It comes with quite a decent amount of powder and you don’t need to use much of it all so it will last quite a while. You can use your finger or a tool, make up sponge. This did not come with one like the newer mirror powders tend to but that is fine. It was easy to apply over the shiny tack-free top coat.

I like that you can control how dark the orange is by the amount of coats you do.

How to Apply:

  1. Prepare your nails with a gel base and colour or fully dry polish base – black or white is best for this shade.
  2. Add a layer of No-wipe UV TOP COAT.  Other top coats or tacky top coats will not get a good mirror effect
  3. Use latex eye shadow applicator, glove or even your finger to pick up a little powder and rub or burnish it onto your nails.
  4. Repeat the step until you’re satisfied with the effect.
  5. Seal it with a No-wipe UV TOP COAT.
  6. You can repeat steps 3 & 4 a second time if coverage is not adequate and to enhance the effect.

The Verdict:
Many of the shades in this listing are sold out so I grabbed this one which was luckily in stock. My plan was to use it for Halloween as I thought it would make a great base, but it’s light enough for other uses. I will definitely use this again.

I do always recommend using a face mask with the powders so you don’t inhale them.
